We were so excited to revisit this next wedding for our blog: the July 2016 wedding of Kevin and Kelsey at the Orlando Science Center! Kevin and Kelsey had so many fun and adorable ideas along their geek chic theme that we were so excited to bring to life, from the video game-inspired centerpieces to the Game of Thrones-inspired dragon wedding cake. With the Game of Thrones series finale still on the mind, we knew we had to bring this one back, and are so happy we can share their beautiful photos courtesy of Ashley Jane Photography!
Kelsey began her day with hair and makeup done by True Love Bridal Beauty. True to herself, she passed the time by playing video games – we thought this made for a great photo that showed her personality through the traditional process. Once hair and makeup was complete, Kelsey stepped into her gorgeous Matthew Christopher gown, found at CC’s Bridal Boutique. Meanwhile, Kevin and his groomsmen got ready in their suits, ties, and dinosaur print socks. They also wore simple purple and red boutonnieres from Raining Roses Productions. Kevin and Kelsey then chose to do a First Look photo shoot. Both were clearly full of excitement and love throughout the shoot. Kelsey found opportunities to showcase her gorgeous Raining Roses bouquet with the same accents of purple and red.
At last, it was time for the ceremony! As guests arrived they passed the card & gift table, with decorative elements inspired by old school video games. We loved all the paper goods brilliantly designed by Dogwood Blossom Stationery to fit with the theme. The seats held up a banner of signs that read “This is where our story begins…”, and at the end of the aisle stood two pillars holding purple and red floral arrangements. The ceremony was short and sweet, and in no time, vows were said, rings were exchanged, and Kevin and Kelsey were declared husband and wife. The two shared a kiss and continued with their guests to the cocktail hour!
The guests enjoyed an outdoor cocktail hour on a terrace of the Orlando Science Center, with a fun set-up of cornhole. The cornhole boards, reflecting the dinosaurs waiting inside, said “T-rex hates corn hole”, a shoutout to the online jokes that a t-rex would have arms too short to do various activities. Once it was time for the dinner reception, guests were greeted with a transformed room full of fun details.
Each guest received a place card to go to a themed table, with themes from Game of Thrones to Super Mario Bros. to Disney to Legend of Zelda. We loved the specially-decorated centerpieces for each table: the Disney table got Mickey and Minnie ears, the Game of Thrones table had a themed vase, the Lego table got Lego figures inside the vase, and so on. Each table even had themed favors! For example, the Legend of Zelda table got a cookie decorated with the symbol from the game.
We absolutely loved every detail of the room, but perhaps none stood out as much as that cake. Sprinkles Custom Cakes really outdid themselves with a cake decorated with the silhouette of a castle and the incredibly detailed figure of a dragon curled around it. It was absolutely amazing!
With the guests in place, the reception began with the introduction of Kevin and Kelsey by the DJ from Junction 88 Productions. They then shared a first dance, followed by toasts and speeches. As everyone enjoyed dinner catered by 4 Rivers Smokehouse, guests were also able to see the wedding slideshow playing on a laptop, as well as check out the wedding’s special Snapchat filter. Kevin and Kelsey then cut the cake, with Kelsey smashing a piece into Kevin’s face. With cake cut and dinner finished, it was time to dance! Kevin and Kelsey danced the night away with their guests, enjoying every moment of their big day together. We could see this was only the beginning of the fun they were going to have together.
Congratulations to Kevin and Kelsey on your marriage, and best wishes from all of us! Thanks to our lovely couple, the venue, and all the phenomenal vendors that continue to amaze us:
